MoRPH supported a data analysis initiative focused on climate and health vulnerabilities in the char (river-island) communities of Gaibandha, Bangladesh.

The char communities of Gaibandha district were highly exposed to climate shocks such as recurrent flooding, riverbank erosion, and displacement. These challenges significantly affected access to healthcare services, increased climate-sensitive health risks, and undermined overall community well-being.

Through this project, baseline survey data collected from beneficiaries and key stakeholders were systematically cleaned, analyzed, and interpreted to identify climate-sensitive health risks, disease patterns, and barriers to essential health services. The analysis also explored community awareness, preparedness, and adaptive practices related to the health impacts of climate change.

The project was funded by Friendship. Dr. Imran Mahmud, Head and Professor, Department of Software Engineering, Daffodil International University and Senior Research Fellow of MoRPH, served as the Principal Investigator (PI), while Ms. Afsana Begum, Assistant Professor, Department of Software Engineering, Daffodil International University and Research Fellow of MoRPH, served as one of the Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs) of the research project.

The findings generated evidence-based insights to support climate-responsive health programming and strengthen health system resilience in vulnerable char communities in Gaibandha. The project produced a comprehensive analytical report, including key indicators, visual data presentations, and practical recommendations for improving adaptive health service delivery in climate-vulnerable settings.

This initiative contributed to advancing sustainable and climate-informed development in Bangladesh, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health, climate action, and resilient communities.
